I was absolutely delighted to have my piece, Norwa, selected and shown at the Australian Bird Week exhibition, Change, in the stunning Corner Gallery in Stanmore, Sydney.
Nowra (aboriginal for Black Cockatoo) is a monochrome, white on black digital art piece that asks us to look through the darkness of our most recent times and see the light; to focus on the things we can do to help our planet and native species rather than focus on shadows of the past.
It asks us to be bold, and brave, and shine the light of hope where we see none. Nowra asks us if we are courageous enough to step out of our shadows, and change.
The exhibition explored the plight of our vulnerable bird life, how they are adapting and conservation programs, but also opened up questions of how we as individuals can help. And help we did, with every artist donating a percentage of their sales to Bird Life Australia raising a total of $4,496 in charity support.
I was absolutely delighted and honoured to have Nowra shown alongside stunning pieces by other local artists, especially as not only was this my first exhibition, but also the first time I had entered any of my artworks to be shown.
I suppose in some ways, Nowra represents my own journey as an artist stepping out of the shadows of doubt and fear, and allowing my art to see the light.
Thank you Bird Life Australia and The Corner Gallery for having me, and thank you, dear reader, for taking the time to read about this awesome experience!
With love and whimsey,
Angharad x
