What a fabulous show The Creative Garage put on at WOTSO Manly with their group artist exhibition, Belonging. The exhibition was a way to celebrate creativity, culture, community, and connection, and as an expat, having found my home on from home on the other side of the world, this sentiment of belonging felt like a heartbeat.
It was a lovely coincidence that this show, where two pieces from my ‘She Dreams in Every Colour’ collection were shown, landed on my 9th anniversary of living in Manly, on the Northern Beaches, Sydney. A full circle from arriving lonely on the shores, to sharing the exhibition with a group of talented local artists who welcomed me into their community with open arms.
Belonging, it seems to me, feels like home, and this show was a true celebration of the power of art to bring people together.
My contribution to the exhibition were two acrylic abstract artworks, ‘And Then She Let Go’ and ‘Joy Cupped in her Palms’, both wildly vibrant, joyful, and slightly mad pieces.
This bold collection explores the colour of emotions and memories that paint our everyday lives; the fleeting moments of joy, delight, and hope concealed and revealed beneath the multiple layers of self.
She Dreams in Every Colour invites us to pause and embrace the vibrant splashes of colour scattered throughout the canvas of our hearts, asking us to tune in to the given moment.
She Dreams in Every Colour is a love letter to life, a poem to the present, and an anchor to the colourful explosions of memories captured within the windows of our souls.
The Belonging exhibition was a fabulous opportunity to share my work with Manly locals, and to connect with other artists, to celebrate the incredible diversity and creativity of our community.
If you are thinking about dipping your toe in the water and adding some vibrant art to your home, why not take a look at the series infused with joyful, happy, and positive vibes…
